Is Ketchup Keto Friendly?
The short answer is, it can be. Some are, some aren’t.
You can buy low carb store-bought ketchup or you can make your own homemade keto ketchup.
This day and age you can pretty much find a ketogenic diet friendly version of anything. So, although regular ketchup can have more than your daily serving of carbs, there are a few keto friendly ketchups with 3 grams of net carbs or less.
Low Carb Ketchup Options
Regular ketchup has, on average, 5g net carbs for 1tbsp and is 20 calories per serving. Although there are many brands of ketchup, there are only very few that make keto-friendly condiments. Really, there are only three good ones (all are half the calories of regular ketchup) and these are them.
Heinz Ketchup, No Added Sugar: If you are on a low-carb diet and love the taste of traditional ketchup, this Heinz ketchup has no sugar added and taste just like regular ketchup. For one tablespoon of ketchup, it is 10 calories with only 1 g net carb. If you’re watching your carb count but are a fan of traditional ketchup brands, this is the keto ketchup for you. It tastes just like regular ketchup, is easy to find, has the lowest carbs and is only 10 calories. Therefore, this is my favorite store bought option.
Primal Kitchen, Organic Unsweetened Ketchup: This ketchup has 2g net carbs and you can find it at most grocery stores. Primal Kitchen is known for making low carb, Paleo and Whole 30 approved and organic recipes.
True Made Foods, No Added Sugar Vegetable Ketchup: This is another great option for keto dieters with just 3g net carbs. It has very clean and basic ingredients that you don’t have to worry about and no artificial sweeteners. They use apple as a natural sweetener and it does have a nice, sweet taste. It is a little harder to find, though.

This low-carb ketchup recipe only has 2g net carbs and is super quick to make (5-10 minutes). If you’d rather make your own ketchup, this is the low carb ketchup recipe I recommend.
Bonus: You likely already have all of these ingredients in your pantry (if not, they’re super easy to find at any local grocery store).
