Origami Owl is a jewelry company that sells lockets that you can customize with small charms. These small charms are supposed to represent your life, kind of like the Pandora bracelets. You can either buy the jewelry on their website or attend a jewelry party that they call a “jewelry bar.”
The jewelry arrives in a cute take out food box kind of thing. The jewelry also comes with a little jewelry box… that isn’t exactly a box; I’m really not sure what to call the thing. Regardless, it’s cute. However, my necklace didn’t even fit inside of it.
The jewelry is nice. I love the designs and think it’s all really cute.
With that being said, I do think it is overpriced. The charms are $5 each, but the prices of the actual lockets vary on the size and shape you decide on. Also, the chain or bracelet that holds the locket is sold separately. For what you see in this picture, I paid a total of $143. The bracelet (excluding the charms in the locket) was free. So I technically paid $143 for the necklace, the heart locket, and all of the charms.
The person hosting the party gets free jewelry if they sell a certain amount and the “designer” gets a commission from every sale. This leads to them jacking up the prices so that they can give away all of this “free” jewelry and give the sales reps a commission.
I found other charm lockets way cheaper on Amazon. Curiosity got the best of me and I just had to purchase it to compare. The locket I bought on Amazon is on the left, and the Origami Owl one is on the right. The charms are EXACTLY the same as the Origami Owl ones, except you can find them for $1 a piece here, instead of $5 a piece through Origami Owl. The one I purchased on Amazon was $24 total… That included the locket, the chain, 4 charms, AND a plate. You can find that locket here.
I will say, the chains offered by Origami Owl are much nicer. However, the plates and charms are identical. The locket looks a little different, but not much. I also received my Amazon order, with no special shipping, days before I received my Origami Owl order… and I ordered the one from Amazon 3 days later.
I do love my Origami Owl jewelry, but I definitely do not think it was worth the price and wouldn’t purchase from them again. I will buy charms on Amazon from now on. I have also heard stories of the Origami Owl lockets cracking very easily, so if that happens to me I will just purchase the lockets on Amazon and attach them to the Origami Owl chain.
If anyone has found cute chains to attach to the lockets elsewhere, let me know!
